Blue's Clues Cries Foul Over Proposed "Lou's Clues"
(email to a friend)

MANHATTAN, NY - Nickelodeon, hosting the long-running children's show "Blue's Clues", has issued a cease-and-desist order to Lou Enterprises, said to be producing a satirical take on the program, called "Lou's Clues". "We sit through the show with our kids, and we fake laughing at all the childish jokes. I wanted to give us all an outlet for laughing out loud at the show in a more mature way. For instance, in Lou's Clues, Lou leaves beer cans on the clues, instead of paw prints," said Lou Santoria, owner of Lou Enterprises.

"It would be like starting a show called 'Kissimmee Street' with all of Sesame Street's characters parodied into something distasteful. When someone wants to be funny, that's one thing. But sullying the image of clean, wholesome children's characters is not something we will tolerate," said Kenton Cline, attorney for Nickelodeon and author of the C&D order. In fact, there has already been at least one parody of "Sesame Street", an Off-Broadway play called "Avenue Q". In terms of darkness and "sullying", Lou's Clues promises to be very tame in comparison.

"We're not producing children's programming here," counters Santoria, "so it has to be reviewed in that context. We have our versions of their stuff, but it's all done in good taste and good humor. We're trying to make people laugh, not make them sick."

Examples of Lou's Clues props and characters include:

  • The Stinkin' Chair - Where Lou's buddy, Lugnut, sits and "ponderizes"
  • Slippery Slope - Lou's "bad conscience", always trying to attract him to trouble
  • Rickety Tock - An old, broken clock, that constantly reminds Lou of how little he's accomplished in his life.

Barring legal intervention, Lou's Clues is slated to air five episodes during the summer on Comedy Central.
