COLUMBUS, Ohio - From time to time, it has been shown that despite rigorous fact-checking and a furious attention to accuracy, an occasional misstep is taken in our reporting. We appreciate the efforts of our readers (and their various legal representatives) to bring us back in line with reality. To that end -- and in accord with the settlements reached with our devoted fans -- we offer the following corrections/clarifications to previous stories:

• Dr. Harvati's statement, "Science thrives because of the crackpots" was taken out of context and was not meant to apply to Mr. Barkstedler. "His theory that Neanderthals came from Mars is as deserving of study as any other," she wrote, "and it is beneath your journalistic dignity to suggest otherwise." We apologize to Dr. Harvati and Mr. Barkstedler.
• Peter Jackson is not the fleshly brother of Michael Jackson or Janet Jackson. He is actually the twin brother (by marriage) of country music star Alan Jackson. We regret the error.
• Our statement, "no one bothered to watch" the now-cancelled VH1 program "I Love The 1880's" was met with a barrage of complaints. We would like to take this time to apologize to Ezekiel F. Watley, Esq., president of the ILT1880's Fan Club, on behalf of the show's many bereaved fans.
